Theatre Advisory Services (J.W. & B.A. McKay Limited) was set up in 1984, following a meeting of theatre practitioners and architects to discuss technical problems in some recent new theatre venues. Initially intended to provide administrative, technical and production advice to organisations planning, building or renovating performing arts venues it was soon providing full theatre consultancy services including;

As well, it provides:

Technical, lighting, administrative, production management and stage management assistance to groups or organisations staging major theatre productions, tours or large-scale conferences.

The design of the of the specialist technical systems for entertainment and performing arts venues including rigging and suspension systems, lighting systems, drapes and production communications.

Consultative performing arts administration including planning, budgeting, grant application, production funding and OSH matters.

Lighting design services including theatre, television film and exhibition.

Theatre, Film and Television Make Up services including special effects, design, wigs and prosthetics.

Technical staff training and provision of technical, lighting and make up staff for performing arts productions.

Full audits of technical production facilities including reviews of staffing levels, budgeting, health and safety issues and cost reporting.
